Every Friday on RobTheHockeyGuy we welcome back Vancouver’s most beloved former Team 1040 on-air radio personality Paul DeBron to share his Top 6 list. Follow DeBron on Twitter at @MiltSeagull. Welcome back to another thrilling edition of the Top 6. Sorry there wasn’t one last week (or sorry it’s back THIS week). As most of […]
Hi Everybody! A refresher for those who know and an introduction for those who don’t: I used to be the producer of TEAM 1040’s morning show and I used to do a segment called the Top 6. People love lists and the debates they inspire. Without blowing too much smoke up my own ass, the […]
Well that was fun, wasn’t it? Our little blog was the centre of attention on Saturday evening after it was discovered that Don Taylor (I don’t think it was an impostor) had made a comment in the comments section of my article: An unbiased review of the Bro Jake Show on Team 1040. Here is […]
The Bro Jake Show (also featuring Dave Pratt who is curiously not in the title of the show) premiered on Team 1040 this week and the early reviews on Twitter are well… terrible. Here’s a sampling: @SocialAssassin2: Only a minute away from the beginning of the end. #GrandpaJake @TEAM1040 @captain_kirk87: Turn on #team1040 and the tragically hip […]
It has been a bit of a wild summer on the sports radio scene in Vancouver. There are a whole bunch of moving parts and I will try to outline as many as I can:
Like a lot of Canucks fans, I’m addicted to the Team 1040. I listen to it all the time because I can’t get enough Canucks talk. But in the last year or two, my addiction has subsided. I still listen to it, but I find myself needing a break from it more often and I […]
There has been a lot of nonsense spewing from the airwaves of the Team 1040 radio station in the last few days. You see, the Canucks have suffered a few injuries and in turn a few on air radio personalities (and callers) have decided that they need a heavyweight enforcer! I, for one, think it’s a gross overreaction.
Sad news yesterday as legendary local broadcaster Paul Carson passed away. Carson had been battling pancreatic cancer. I never met Paul Carson but his accomplishments were lengthy. He was the brains behind Sports Page and also started up the Team 1040. Perhaps no person has shaped the local sports scene more than Paul Carson. He did a lot of it in front of the camera, but even more behind camera. He’s responsible for essentially discovering Don Taylor, John Shorthouse, Dave Randorf, Barry McDonald, Scott Rintoul and Blake Price (among others).
I don’t know it for sure, but I believe the Canucks sellout streak is over at Rogers Arena. Now, the Canucks aren’t admitting this, and the game notes on Canucks.com for tonight’s game claim that they have 322 consecutive sellouts. But over the last little while I’ve noticed a few things that make me doubt the current sellout streak.
The rumour mill is heating up with regards to Willie Mitchell and shockingly it appears the Canucks may still be in the race. It looks like the free agent d-man is now symptom free and will be ready to start the season. He has also reportedly narrowed his search to four teams: Washington, Detroit, San Jose and Vancouver. Mike Gillis didn’t do anything to curtail rumours, admitting to talking to Mitchell.
