Playoff Time! Sharks vs Canucks 1st Round Preview
One year ago, the San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings played each other in the final game of the regular season and the Sharks won 3-2, giving the Canucks the Kings in round 1. This year, the opposite happened. The Kings beat the Sharks in their final game (by the same 3-2 score) to [...]
AV’s Shootout Strategy Needs Some Help
Thanks to sweet moves of Zack Kassian in the shootout last night, the Canucks won their first game of the season. One question though, why did head coach Alain Vigneault wait until the fifth round to use Zack Kassian? This may sound like 20/20 hindsight, but there’s no way that Kassian should have been the [...]
How the Canucks should handle the Schneider/Luongo fiasco
Well, Cory Schneider’s debut as a starting goalie in the NHL didn’t exactly go as planned. Schneider let in 5 goals on 14 shots and was yanked from the game in the middle of the second period. Cue the drama, as Roberto Luongo stepped in to replace him. The media began licking their chops. How [...]
GAME ON! Canucks 2013 season preview
We’ve waited a long time for this… The Canucks open their season tonight against the Anaheim Ducks at Rogers Arena! So what can we expect this year? Thus far, predictions have been wide ranging. There are some still picking the Canucks to go to the Stanley Cup final, while others are predicting that they will [...]
My Message to Vigneault: Start Luongo in Game 7
Frankly, I’m amazed at the amount of debate over which goalie should start in game 7 for the Canucks-Blackhawks series. Currently on the Team 1040 website, their poll shows 53% in favour of Luongo, 47% in favour of Schneider.
Canucks Lose Game 5… PANIC!
Well, did anyone see that coming? After spanking the Canucks 7-2 in game 4, they followed that up with another beat down in game 5. So here we are, nervous, panicking. Is it justified? Absolutely yes. Chicago has all of the momentum and Vancouver will need to turn it around.
Time to load up? Would you trade Raymond, Ballard and Schneider for Iginla?
Let me immediately state that this is not a trade rumour. Nobody has suggested that the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames are talking trade or that Mike Gillis is shopping Mason Raymond, Keith Ballard or Cory Schneider. Even new Flames general manager Jay Feaster has said that he is not interested in trading the face of the franchise, Jarome Iginla. While we can choose to believe or not believe Jay Feaster, it’s still unlikely that he would trade Iginla to Vancouver given that they are a division rival. The point of asking this question centres around a bigger question. When (if ever) is the time to load up, trade for a player to put your team over the hump, while sacrificing some of your future? I think this year might be the year and a Raymond/Ballard/Schneider for Iginla deal is at least worth a thought.
The Canucks Defense is Overrated.
First of all, let me start off this article by stating that this is not a knee jerk reaction article because of last night’s 7-1 debacle against the Chicago Blackhawks. I have been thinking about writing this article for some time now, and last night just cemented my feelings on this.
One month in: now what do we think of this team?
We are just under one month into the 2010-11 edition of the Vancouver Canucks. Despite pre-season Stanley Cup predictions, this season began with a bit of a whimper. The Canucks started off the season 2-3-2, beating only bottom feeders Florida and Carolina. It also featured a fan fueled goaltending freakout of Dan Cloutier proportions.
How much rest does Luongo need?
We’re two games into the 2010-11 regular season and already a mini media firestorm has begun with the decision to start Roberto Luongo in goal for tonight’s game versus the Anaheim Ducks. The argument goes that if the Canucks are to play Cory Schneider in 20-25 games this season (as Mike Gillis has suggested), they ought to play Schneider against what looks like a poor team in Anaheim.
