Hockey Hall of Fame Ignores Goalies

The Hockey Hall of Fame inducted four more players today, including two former Canucks, Pavel Bure and Mats Sundin. Bure, Sundin and the other two inductees, Sakic and Oates are all full marks for their induction, but does anyone else find it odd that the Hall of Fame ignores the most important position in hockey, [...]

Canucks Set to Wrongfully Retire Pavel Bure’s #10

Gino Odjick spilled the beans to Jason Botchford of the Province a few days ago, Pavel Bure will indeed see his #10 jersey hang from the rafters. Apparently Francesco Aquilini will meet with Bure during his Hall of Fame induction on Monday. First of all, congratulations to Pavel Bure. He is set to become the [...]

Pavel Bure Deserves to be in the Hall of Fame

Today the Hockey Hall of Fame inducted four more players: Ed Belfour, Joe Nieuwendyk, Doug Gilmour and Mark Howe. As always, the inductees are quickly praised before the hockey world debates who should have been inducted, but wasn’t. And for another year, the Pavel Bure argument has gained more momentum. Hodgson Changes Number, Hopes to Rid Curse of the Number 39

Cody Hodgson has decided to switch numbers. He’ll be moving away from his familiar #39 in favour of the #9 jersey, and I’m all for it! The number 39 has not been kind of Cody Hodgson. In fact, it hasn’t been kind of anyone in Canuck history.

Canucks Fans and Battered Wife Syndrome: A Long, Hard Summer

In a college newspaper several years ago, a good friend of mine wrote an article which drew a parallel between Canucks fans and battered wives. Game 5 Recap – Not So Quick

Game 5 was the first one sided game of this entertaining series. For the first time in the series, Roberto Luongo clearly outplayed Jonathan Quick, who was chased in the second period. For the second game in a row, the Canucks power play equaled the Kings power play, perhaps indicating that this penalty killing jinx is at least close to ending.

Mike Peca Retires

Mike Peca called it a career today. Hardly a surprise given he hasn’t played a game this year, but still notable nonetheless. From a Canucks perspective, I will remember Peca for a couple of different reasons. At the 1995 draft, then Canucks general manager Pat Quinn pulled off one of the biggest blockbuster trades in Canucks history.

Bad Luck Canucks

I woke up this morning and read a couple of troubling stories about some Canuck prospects. Arguably the Canucks best player of the preseason, Sergei “the Pocket Russian Rocket” Shirokov, suffered a mild first degree sprain on his knee in the Canucks 3-1 win over Edmonton last night. They are hoping to have him back for next weekend, which leaves him little time to impress the coaches enough to crack the opening day lineup.
