"Vancouver Canucks. nLast year’s loss in the finals was far more devastating than anybody in British Columbia thought it would be. Leading up to and during the series against Los Angeles, you could see some of the most important players were not as focus, committed or determined as they needed to be. It was a mistake not to prepare for the postseason like it was the first time you are in it. You can not win the Stanley Cup unless you win the first round. In 2001, we had some of our players not playing at their best at the start of the playoffs and it cost us the Cup in the Stanley Cup Final by playing too many unnecessary games. We dragged it out to six games against Carolina, and seven against Toronto. I’m not trying to be sentimental but use my lesson for analysis. Vancouver was too focused on the ultimate goal and the ultimate goal became a distraction. They had great team last year, but they mistakenly tried to alter the team to match up against a Bruins type of team. Well Bruins is out, and so are the Canucks. They should have tried to improve on the style of hockey that brought them the success they already had. Skill, speed first and grit second. In the end, it always will be your top players who have to dominate the games, and the Canucks did not get it this year. I think they need an adjustment in attitude than in personnel changes. They need to be hungry, driven and committed to winning like a team that never made the playoffs before." – Bobby Holick

Rob, Some great input on "trash talk." You make some valid points, ie statute of limits, premature trashing etc. I have to say one thing though, I'm not too sure I have the self control as a loyal Canuck fan to not trash the Bruins team/fans & everything about that team! I am soooo happy they have been ousted this season:) People love to talk oh how they love to talk!! So many of us, myself included, open our mouths before we open our brains! One more point, there is NO place for racial slurs in any which way or form in "trash talk!" As far as I'm concerned, racial slurs only perpetuate our already overdosed society of "bullying!" Happy blogging:) A Canuck fan forever!!

I don't see why Buffalo wouldn't make this trade in the offseason as well. It's a good deal for them long term.

Obviously it would have been better to do that trade in the offseason, considering that Kassian and Gragnani did nothing for us this year. But Gillis has said that Kassian is a special type of player of which there are only 5 in the league. As for the timing of the trade, I assume that Buffalo said its now or never because they were fighting for their lives and needed scoring immediately.

Cassius Clay ,f.i.intimidating his opponents,proved with wins,when before the matches shouting his mouth of ,what he predicted! Why can' t the Canucks just play hockey and brag afterwards after the facts and a win!? n n To many disappointments in believing in that team since living in BC for the past 42 years.-Going to support some midget team in the back country instead!

Uh, they made it to game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals last year. But yeah this they are more mentally prepared and have better depth.
