Team USA Olympic hockey roster announced

Team USA unveiled their roster for the Sochi 2014 Olympics after the Winter Classic today. There were a few surprises, including Keith Yandle not making the team. Former Canuck Cory Schneider was passed over in favour of Jimmy Howard (wrongfully so in my opinion).

In November our own Tyler Wilde previewed what the American roster might look like, and he was pretty close. He picked Bobby Ryan, Jason Pominville, Keith Yandle, Dustin Byfuglien, James Wisniewski, Jack Johnson and Cory Schneider, all of whom will probably feel slighted today. In their place are James van Riemsdyk, Max Pacioretty, Justin Faulk (the biggest surprise pick in my opinion), Brooks Orpik, Cam Fowler, Paul Martin and Jimmy Howard.

Here’s a look at Team USA and my idea of how they will organize their lines:

Zach Parise - Ryan Kesler - Patrick Kane

Phil Kessel - Joe Pavelski - James van Riemsdyk

TJ Oshie - David Backes - Max Pacioretty

Ryan Callahan – Derek Stepan - Dustin Brown

Blake Wheeler

Paul Stastny

Ryan Suter – John Carlson

Ryan McDonagh – Kevin Shattenkirk

Brooks Orpik – Paul Martin

Cam Fowler

Justin Faulk

Ryan Miller

Jonathan Quick

Jimmy Howard

After seeing the pictures of those chosen to represent USA, I understand why Kyle Okposo is not included in the roster, Keep working hard Kyle!
